Also known as Baby Champ Rainbow. / Também conhecido como Baby Champ Rainbow.

It was in a really bad shape, no speaker, negative connections messy, lots of wax caps and resistors out of specification./ Quando o peguei estava bem ruim, sem autofalante, sem trasnformador de saída, as conecções negativas estavam uma bagunça e vários capacitores de cera e resistências fora de especificação.

Back to life after a complete restoration. Replaced all out of spec condensers and resistors, new 5" speaker with output transformer, rewired the floating negative and connections that were soldered directly to chassis, and polished with Novus #2 followed by #1. / De volta a vida após uma completa restauração. Troquei todos os condensadores e resistências que estavam fora de especificação, coloquei um novo auto falante de 5 polegas com o transformador de saída já acoplado, refiz toda as conecções negativas e poli o gabinete com Novus #2 seguido por #1, usado para polir pláticos e baquelites.

This is another radio that belongs to Juvenal.
Basically, I retored all Philco bakelite block condensers (Fig. 1 to 4) and the box condenser (Fig. 5). Replaced electrolytics, output transformer (Fig. 8), and out of specification resistors, and rewound the oscillator coil (Fig. 6).

Fig. 1 - A Philco Block Condenser

Fig. 2 - Melting all old tar potting compound with a hot gun to release condensers. Do not overheat the bakelite block, otherwise it will get bubbles.

Fig. 3 - To remove traces of tar use thinner and a rag. Bakelite block then ready to receive new condensers.

Fig. 4 - New condensers inside the bakelite case.

Fig. 5 - Box condenser: old (tar) and new (yellow).

Fig. 6 - Oscillator coil rewound.

Fig. 7 - Philco 89 front, missing original knobs. Any available?

Fig. 8 - Philco 89 back. Note the new output transformer.
