This Radiola 18 was restored during the month of September of last year. It was a very challenging and rewarding restoration project. The radios was in bad conditions with lots of rust and very dirty. The cabinet old finish was striped and a new lacquer finish was applied in two tones of mahogany. The power supply was bad but I had a second set that I used to remove a good transformer. Lots of sanding to get rid of the rust and cleaning to remove the dirt from chassis. This was a very pleasant and nice day I spent with my dad, my son, and my nephew at MAARC September meeting at Davidsonville, MD. Dad got impressed with the old radios and radiolas from the 20`s in working conditions.  I got a Zenith model 5S327 in Lazarus condition, but I know what I need to get it back in a good shape.

The first one I bought a few minutes after I arrived was a highly sought after Emerson AX212 Bulsseye. For sure a great addition to Cape Old Radio collection. For restoration, I got a Westinghouse Radio Refrigerator H126, a Majestic International, and a Federal Instrument Corporation Radio, the former two without a clear model id. Coincidently, both have the same tube complement 6D6, 6C6, 43, 25Z5, and a ballast 185R8.

The XXXI Radio Show was a success as well. As usual, I just went for the first day, Sep 19th. I got there by 8 AM, and a great deal of tables, full of radios, were already set in two pavilions of the Renninger's outdoor show field, in Kutztown PA. The day was just gorgeous. Dealers and collectors from everywhere, including a bunch from MAARC, gathered to display and sell radio receivers, audio and ham radios, radio accessories, parts, tubes, and memorabilia.Take a look at some pictures:

This is a radio that I just bought because of its look as well as the good price, because it was in a very poor overall condition. I acquired this set at the XXX Kutztown Radio Show flea market, in May, 2014. The set was missing the 2 knobs, cabinet sides were loose, chassis was very rusty, the power transformer was open in the high voltage secondary winding as were the primary of the output transformer and the 10K wirewound potentiometer. Well, I put it aside for weeks, thinking about what to do. I thought about given up on the radio. No, no way, I have never given up on a radio before! Thus, I decided to restore the radio even knowing that it would be a lot of work.
